Single large Mammoth tusk meticulously restored - Pacific Compagnie
Description
Large Woolly Mammoth Tusk PC - Mammoth Single Large
Mammoths, which disappeared several thousand years ago, were fascinating animals. Their impressive tusks were much larger than those of our modern elephants.
Dating back more than 10,000 years, this woolly mammoth tusk is an extremely rare specimen, measuring ten centimeters in diameter and over two meters in height. Discovered in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), in northeastern Siberia, this unique piece has been extraordinarily well preserved, thanks to the extremely low temperatures, which can reach as low as -70°C in this region. These long years spent in the Siberian ice have given it its distinctive patina, a blend of beige, green, and blue.
This tusk underwent very specific treatments for meticulous restoration. First sanded, it was then stabilized under vacuum and high pressure. For a near-perfect finish, this piece has been hand-polished. All this work ensures a unique decorative object that will last for many years to come.
