Rearing Horse - Pacific Compagnie
Description
This exceptional Rearing Fairground Horse from Pacific Compagnie is an authentic collector's piece dating from 1910, created by the renowned Hübner & Poeppig workshop in Neustadt an der Orla, Germany. Attributed to Alfred Poeppig, one of the great names in historic fairground art, this rare sculpture embodies the craftsmanship and imagination of the Belle Époque.
Hand-carved from wood and richly hand-painted, the horse is enhanced with finely crafted brass decorations and colourful glass cabochons, reflecting the opulence of the period's fairground carousels. Originally created for a travelling carousel, it stands today as an outstanding example of European fairground heritage.
During the decades following the Second World War, many historic fairground rides were dismantled and abandoned as they fell out of favour. Their carved horses and decorative elements were often lost or left to deteriorate. Thanks to the dedication of collectors such as Fabienne and François Marchal, these masterpieces have been preserved and restored, ensuring the survival of an important artistic legacy.
A rare museum-quality artwork, it is equally suited to private collections, prestigious interiors, galleries, or exhibition spaces.
